Dolby, Oscars and out post sound

Dolby Labs have just announced that all of the films nominated for an Oscar in the Achievement in Sound Editing and Achievement in Sound Mixing categories used at least one Dolby technology in the process.

This is the 32nd year in which films released with Dolby technology have earned an Oscar nomination. The technologies include Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Surround EX as formats for the audio release.

The films include Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, Star Trek, Up and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

It is gratifying to know that out post sound utilises both Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II systems, although we have yet to be nominated for an Oscar there is always the possibility!

out post uses Neyrink SurroundCode for Dolby Digital within Pro Tools, Compressor from Apple for projects outside Pro Tools and Dolby Surround Tools plugin for Dolby Pro Logic projects. We also work with partner studios in Soho to provide Dolby certified mixes for cinematic release.

We better start saving for some suits!

out post is two!

out post sound has reached the ripe old age of two! In our brief history we have ridden with kings on mighty steeds across the devil's plain, we've walked with Jesus and his cross - He did not die in vain - No! We've run with wolves, we've climbed K2, even stopped a moving train, we've traveled through space and time my friends to rock this house again……

No, hang on that 's Tenacious D!

However, we have gone from strength to strength, and worked with some amazing clients and are excited that the end of 2009 and beginning of 2010 has many great projects in the pipeline.

So, for now, we are off to have a party and we will be back and ready for more audio loveliness tomorrow...

out post plays the game

out post has been very busy over the last few months completing audio for “The Blue Toad Murder Files” from Relentless Software, which is due to appear exclusively on the Sony Playstation 3 and consists of six intriguing episodes. Set in the sleepy village of Little Riddle, the main aim of the game is to follow clues to find the murderer. Along the way players also encounter a variety of different and challenging puzzles which help them move through the peaceful world of Little Riddle. Here at out post, we have recorded all of the audio for all of the characters in the games voiced by the amazing Tom Dussek, who plays both male and female characters. Under the watchful eye of Producer Jade Tidy from Relentless, we have chuckled our way through amazing plot lines and fantastically written dialogue for the last three months.

out post sound shortlisted for business awards

out post sound has been shortlisted in the Best New Business (or New Kids on The Block) category in the Brighton and Hove Business Awards 2009. out post saw off stiff competition to get into the final four and we are looking forward to the awards ceremony on the 9th of October at the Brighton Hilton Metropole Hotel.

The BAHBA’s website states: “The award for “New Kids on the Block”, sponsored by Royal Mail, remains the most popular category of all and shows that, despite the recession, Brighton is still home to a number of successful start-ups.” With any luck, or at least our wit, charm and good looks we can clinch the award on the night - if only so we can practice our acceptance speech for when we go and collect a BAFTA.

We shall wait to see if we have the right stuff to win the award — and as the New Kids on the Block said themselves, in their timeless classic, ‘The Right Stuff’: “Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. The right stuff.” Pure Class!

out post goes to Hollywood

out post sound has completed work on Kevin Costner’s new feature film, The New Daughter. out post was approached by Gold Circle Films in Los Angeles (producers of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Slither, White Noise) and post production house Sharpe Sound in Vancouver to record ADR for Brighton based actor Noah Taylor (Pirates of The Caribbean, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tomb Raider), who plays Professor White in the film.

Utilising Pro Tools 8 and Source Connect out post connected to Sharpe Sound and carried out the session under the watchful eye of Director Luis Berdejo. The session was then run in Transport Lock Mode enabling Berdejo to hear every take in sync with the temp tracks on Sharpe Sound’s Pro Tools System.

“This was without doubt our biggest movie to date and it will certainly help to place out post firmly on the map while adding to my continued belief that film post production service providers can exist and thrive in Brighton,” explained ADR recording engineer and Managing Director Rob Speight.
