Charlotte’s journey into sound design/engineering is an unusual one. She trained as an artist, receiving a first class honours Fine Art degree from Sheffield Hallam University. Although the course she undertook was a painting course, Charlotte developed a keen interest during this time in sound, and its place within artistic practice, making many field recordings, and teaching herself how to use applications like Pro Tools.
Since then, Charlotte has exhibited her sound works extensively across the UK, creating installations for gallery spaces, as well as sound pieces for broadcast, on stations such as Resonance FM. Charlotte has twice received Arts Council funding to develop her work. Her work has also been exhibited in Germany and Canada, and she received a grant from the British Council to support the exhibition of her work in Canada. Recently, her piece "Eternally Unfinished Attempt to Grasp Everything as it Happens (in only one language)" has been featured in a book about the use of language and text in art, called "Playing with Words", by Cathy Lane.
Charlotte has created sound design for several theatre productions, and is soon to create sound design for two short films by director Andrew Ryland. She is also preparing to undertake Pro Tools certified training courses 110, 201 and 210P, as all her training to this point has been self-taught.
Charlotte is involved in education work, occasionally going into schools to lead workshops based around sound / sound recording / art / science / music / maths.
She is also a musician, playing trombone in Afro-Funk band Kalakuta Millionaires.
